There is just so much in the news every day these days, in the UK and in the wider world, and so many different interpretations of what’s behind the headlines. The Current Affairs Group provides an opportunity for members to review and discuss issues of current global, national and local importance by analysing and discussing recent news reports and commentaries.

In each meeting we discuss in detail two topics (one national, one international) from what’s been in the news since the last meeting, and we also have a quick look at other significant news items. There is no expectation that members will reach a consensus, but it is hoped that members appreciate how current issues can be considered from a wide range of perspectives and using different approaches.

If you read a newspaper or a news magazine or follow the news programmes on the radio or television and would like to have chance to discuss with others who perhaps have different insights and perspectives, this could be the group for you.

The group meets on the 3rd Thursday in the morning at a central Reading location.

Members can get further details from the members area.

Non-members can use the request form to contact the membership secretary for futher details
